Earthquake-interrupted Resco Compact Laminate ablution block completed.

Kaikoura Top 10 Holiday Park’s ablution block upgrade delayed but now sits resiliently in red with Resco cubicles, vanities and wall linings.

The popular holiday park has been owned by the Nolan family for 25 years. When the destructive Kaikoura earthquake struck in November 2016, the family were halfway through their main ablution block renovation, and siblings Ed, Simon and Alannah were in the process of taking over the park from their parents Gerald and Lynne.

The upgrade work came to a sudden halt as town access became problematic and tradies were diverted to higher priority quake damage work. However the change of ownership continued and was completed the following April. When work on the ablution block was able to begin again Gerald kept a hand in project managing and now the family have a facility, resplendent in red, that they are all “really proud of and pleased with” says co-owner Ed Nolan.

They opted for Resco Compact Laminate confident of the cost effectiveness and durability of the Resco products says Ed. They chose Resco vanities, Resco Multicom wall linings and the strongest cubicle range, Series 7000 (now Storm series).

In addition to looking great and being so robust, Ed says the family and park cleaning staff have noted the higher state of cleanliness now being achieved as a result of Resco surfaces and design, with less labour hours and less cleaning product necessary. “This is obviously an important plus for us,” says Ed.

The park does have some motel-style accommodation but the renovated ablution block is used by the majority of the park’s guests, who stay in the 12 cabins and on the 95 camping/caravan/campervan sites. Ed says about 75 percent of their clients are from overseas and, with the resumption of the passenger rail connection between Picton and Christchurch, and their location beside both SH1 and the Kaikoura railway station, they are expecting the park to become a busy place again.

Resco product specialist Troy Henriques says the company was pleased to work alongside the Nolans to see their upgrade through, despite the significant interruption caused by the earthquake. Troy says: “The Series 7000 toilet partitions, Resco vanities and Multicom wall panelling on this project are perfectly suited to facilities that have high use year round. The antibacterial and anti-graffiti qualities of our Compact Laminate products guarantees value for money and clean, tidy ablution areas for many years”.
